Fall in love with your hair this Autumn
From colour to style to products, our hair is our best accessory, and therefore it is so important to keep our manes looking luscious.
Colour
Autumn always makes clients want to change their hair from blonde to brown, and from an experienced stylist with over 15 years experience in the industry it is important to educate our clients on the damage and distress that this can cause on your hair.
If you are blonde and want a change from the summer loving vibes to more of an autumn feel, you have plenty of options, you could add a dark foil with your existing colour/s. Or you could just have money pieces along with every other section on the parting done.
If you have an idea in your head about your colour (or cut), find a picture and share it with your stylist so that they know what you are trying to achieve. Also bare in mind that it might be a gradual transition, rather than all in one sitting.
Style
Whether your hair is pixie, bob or long, find a style that suits your lifestyle. I see so many people walk out of salons with styles they can not keep up at home. When choosing a style, you should really be thinking about whether you can keep up with the maintenance of that style.
Most face shapes suit a range of different styles but generally below are the best styles:
Rectangle: Layered cuts, waves or curls, soft chignons, rounded fringes or curtains
Oval: Blunt bobs/lobs with subtle layers, long waves or curls
Square: Side-parted styles, long layers, short layered bobs, side-swept fringe
Heart: Long side-swept cuts, curls starting below the ear, side-parted pixies, lobs
Diamond: Mid to longer layered cuts worn with waves, deep side parts, chin-length bobs
Round: Long layered cuts, textured pixie cuts, short side fringe
Triangle: Layers that finish at the eyes/cheekbones or collarbone, textured pixie cuts, short side fringe
If you opt for hair extensions make sure that you are following the aftercare your stylist gives you. Aftercare is one of the most important steps of having hair extensions. Also make sure it is blended CORRECTLY, not even Angelina Jolie can pull off unblended hair extensions. FACT!..
Products
And lastly, to keep your hair looking like you've stepped out of the salon everyday, using the correct products is so so so important!
If you are blonde, make sure you are using purple shampoo to keep the yellow tones at bay. Did you know blonde hair is actually yellow, hence why your colourist will also tone it to your desired blonde. I am really loving Fanola at the moment. It's quite an intense shampoo so I tend to mix it in with my every wash shampoo, True Hair.
Generally speaking, most people's hair is on the dry side, so it's important to use a hydrating hair mask once a week. The Maui range is quite good and really makes my hair feel the love.
Then use a conditioner to seat the cuticle.
Before drying your hair make sure to use a heat defence as it helps to protect your hair from the intense heat of the hair dryer. Or if you can air dry your hair. But always make sure your hair is dry before you hit the hay, as wet hair is at its most vulnerable state.
Get into the habit now and your older self will thank me later!
